September 2010 issue cover
The September 2010 issue of WLT includes a first-ever marquee section devoted to International Short Fiction, introduced by guest editor Alan Cheuse, who is best known for his frequent book reviews on National Public Radio’s All Things Considered. Authors contributing short stories include Ana Menéndez (Cuba/US), Raija Siekkinen (Finland), Nicole Lee (Malaysia), Andrei Cornea (Romania), Fatou Diome (Senegal/France), Cyrille Fleischman (France), Simon Fruelund (Denmark), Benjamin Percy (US), Amanda Michalopoulou (Greece), Alix Ohlin (Canada), and Ru Freeman (Sri Lanka), with original artwork by Edel Rodriguez on the cover and Danica Novgorodoff inside.

Also, George Evans presents an excerpt from Vietnamese American author Andrew Lam’s forthcoming essay collection, East Eats West, due out from Heyday in September. Lam is the latest author to be profiled in our “Emerging Authors” series, a year-long feature in which we’ve been asking world-renowned writers to introduce an author whose work they think deserves attention – and will gain prominence – in 2010 and beyond.

Additional highlights include new poetry by Tedi López Mills (Mexico), Jyrki Heikkinen (Finland), and Roger Sedarat (Iran/US), plus interviews with Israeli author Eshkol Nevo and Dutch crime writer Charles den Tex. As always, we include author profiles, notes on new books, and book reviews from around the world, plus the next installment in our Editor’s Choice selection, which features recommended readings by WLT’s editorial staff.

Last but not least, join the WLT Book Club discussion of Nepalese-born author Samrat Upadhyay’s latest novel, Buddha’s Orphans, just published in July. There, you’ll find an interview with the author and reading questions to guide your exploration of the book.
