Financial Aid Verification

What is verification?

Federal Verification is a review process, mandated by the federal government, to check the accuracy of information reported on financial aid documents submitted by students and their families. Nationwide, the federal government selects approximately 25 percent of student financial aid applications for verification.

How will I know if I am selected?

If your FAFSA is selected for verification, you’ll get notifications via email and phone about the process from OU. Your Student Aid Report (SAR) that you receive after submitting your FAFSA will also contain a notice about verification.

Will I still get my OU Financial Aid Notification (financial aid estimate)?

Yes, but you will not receive a Financial Aid Notification until OU has received and processed all of your required verification documents. Allow for 10-12 business days for the SFC office to process your information once it’s submitted. Be sure to check your email regularly in case more documentation is needed.

What documents are required for verification?

Each student will have different requirements for verification. Log into your OU Student Financial Center account at one.ou.edu to see your checklist of required documents.
