Educational Background

Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Political Science, University of Oklahoma

As a student, where did you leave your mark on campus?

I left my mark at Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication. As a Gaylord student, I was very involved in my college. I was able to bring podcasting as a leading form of storytelling in Gaylord through my projects “Survive and Thrive” and “America’s Cross-Roads” which focus on telling stories of trials and growth through the racial upheaval, political unrest and COVID-19 pandemic. Now, current students have access to resources such as studios and classes to allow them to dive into their passion of storytelling through podcasts, keeping Gaylord ahead of the curve on journalism practices.

Define the OU Family in your own words.

The OU Family is the reason I decided to serve my alma mater, and future Sooners, as an Admissions Counselor. The community I was to able to be a part of is something I can take with me through the rest of my life. Peers become lifelong friends and professors and faculty become mentors at OU, and that is the OU Family that goes beyond those four or so years you are a student on campus.

When was the moment you felt the greatest Sooner pride?

The moment I have and still feel the most Sooner pride is when I see how OU students can come together and enact change. This is something that has not only happened historically at the university but continues to happen when wrongs are revealed. The OU student body and community always strive to take two steps forward following a step back and constantly looks for ways to improve the OU Family.

What was the greatest gift you took with you after graduation?

The greatest gift I took with me after graduation is the OU Family I get to take with me: the type of family that is always there, always pushes you to be a better version of you and always joins in on “Boomer Sooner”!

What is your favorite OU tradition?

My favorite OU tradition is the OU Chant at Sooner football games. There’s something about a stadium full of people cheering on the Sooners to a win and gathering to sing the OU chant that embarrassingly makes me cry every single time without fail! Nothing can match that feeling; Boomer Sooner!

What advice do you have for prospective students?

Take a campus tour! This is the best way to see yourself on campus and learn about all the resources OU offers! It also is a great way to get to know OU faculty and students so you can start building your community before you even enroll in classes! Additionally, reach out to your OU Admissions Counselor whenever you have questions; we are here to help!
