Admission Requirements

  • OU Students: 2.0 GPA (OU and Total) or by appeal/contract
  • Transfer Students: 2.0 GPA or by appeal/contract

Additional Requirements

  • Current OU students who meet the admission requirements may declare a major as Exploratory if they would like additional time to decide on a major or need to work on gaining admission to their desired College.
    • Note: Beginning the 11th week of the semester, a change in major will be reflected on a student's transcript for the following semester. Some Colleges may wait until the end of the semester to review a student's final grades before approving/processing a major change.

Students should be advised no later than the end of October for spring and summer classes, no later than the end of March for Fall classes. However, students can be advisied at other times as well. Pre Law and Pre Medical Professions advisors see students anytime and will refer students to their major advisor for semester-to-semester advising and hold lifting.

Students in Exploratory are advised in individual advising appointments typically lasting at least one hour. Your AARC Exploratory advisor is specially trained to help with any major on campus and fully understands the admission requirements for every major. You will stay in AARC until you have decided on a major and you are admissible to that chosen major.

Exploratory advisors (Michele, Laura, and Kendra) are specially trained in helping students with academic repair and major exploration. They are also academic life coaches and will utilize life coaching in our advising sessions.

Students should be familiar with the degree requirements checksheet for their major. Degree Navigator is another helpful tool that students and advisors use to view academic requirements and progress.
