Top Life Defining Moments in Higher Education:
- Deciding to return to college as an adult to finish my bachelor’s degree to prove to myself that I could do it. Plus I wanted to show my son how hard work and determination can help you achieve your goals.
- Working in the academic setting as an Administrative Assistant for 14 years allowed me to see that I wanted to move into a more student centered position.
- Accepting a position as the Triage Academic Advisor created this desire to help students achieve dream of completing their undergraduate degree s from OU. This lead to my current position as a PreMedical Professions Advisor at the University of Oklahoma.
While in college, I experienced:
- Balancing work and school.
- Difficulty building and managing successful study systems.
- Financial stress.
- Overcoming daily challenges through resiliency
- Other-I was a full time single mom, working full time and finishing my degree. I was doing it both to advance in my career but also to show my son that hard work pays off and how important it was to complete my degree. One of my greatest memories is of him cheering for me when I graduated (he was a freshman in college at the time).
