The Office of Academic Assessment offers a number of assessment workshops in both spring and fall semesters on topics ranging from Articulating or Refining Course and Program Level Outcomes to Identifying Appropriate Direct Assessment Methods for Individual Courses as well as Degree and Certificate Programs Program Level Outcomes.
All workshop offerings are available in both fall and spring semesters upon request by individual faculty members or teams of faculty from degree/certificate programs, departments/schools and colleges. Please allow 2-3 weeks of planning time upon request of workshop.
Over the past two decades, colleges and universities across the United States have faced increased demands to show evidence that students are meeting appropriate educational goals. Designing and implementing assessments at the course level is quite instrumental in ensuring that students are not just learning the material, but also providing important information to instructors on the extent of the progress students are making in attaining the intended learning outcomes of the course.
Bloom's taxonomy is a set of three hierarchical models used for classification of educational learning objectives into levels of complexity and specificity. The three lists cover the learning objectives in cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains.
Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) are generally simple, non-graded, anonymous, in-class activities designed to give you and your students useful feedback on the teaching-learning process as it is happening.
As part of promoting a culture of learning and student success at OU, the Office of Academic Assessment established a biennial university-wide conference commonly referred to as “OU Assessment Forum”.

There are several key national and international conferences for higher education professionals involved in assessment, institutional research, and academic quality. These gatherings help allow OU faculty and staff to engage in professional development and networking.

The OU Symposium on Learning, Assessment, and Teaching Excellence (SLATE) (formally referred to as “OU Assessment Forum”), is a collaboration between the Office of Academic Assessment and the Center for Faculty Excellence.
