Each year about 5,000 students, faculty, and staff unite in an unparalleled effort to say “thank you” to the central Oklahoma area for the support they show our university year round. Over 200 community organizations benefit from Big Event volunteers. Join us in our efforts to directly impact our community.
The Big Event is Saturday, April 11, 2026 and begins with the Opening Ceremony followed by volunteering from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the jobsite. More questions are answered in graphics and menus below.
Students, faculty, and staff can register with student organizations, a group of friends, or even as an individual. Volunteer registration for The Little Event opens in the fall. Volunteers start their day at the Opening Ceremony on the North Oval and then serve at over 200 jobsites located throughout Oklahoma City, Norman, and the surrounding communities. You will be contacted in the weeks prior to The Big Event with details regarding your specific jobsite location.

The Big Event requires at least 75% of volunteers signed up with a student organization to attend for the student organization to remain eligible to participate the following year. If you are unable to attend, please email bigevent@ou.edu with your name, group name, OU ID number, and reason for being unable to attend.
