Mandatory fees are assessed to support the operation, maintenance, and ongoing development of the university’s infrastructure and student support services. These fees are intended to benefit the student body as a whole rather than individual students. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education have authorized the following mandatory enrollment fees.
The Academic Advising Fee supports academic advising services for students across all colleges. The fee supports electronic access to advising and degree audit systems and expands the availability of advisors. Additionally, revenue generated by this fee will fund new program initiatives and strategies designed to improve student graduation rates.
The Academic Excellence Fee supports the recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty and advances their teaching, scholarship, and research. It helps fund laboratories, classroom renovations, instructional equipment, research support (including assistants), and scholarly publication, ensuring a high-quality academic and research environment.
The Academic Records Fee supports the cost of no-charge transcript requests made in person on campus, printed and electronic diplomas, and other academic records services available to students throughout their time at the university and beyond.
The Connectivity Fee supports the operation and maintenance of the university’s technology systems, including the student service desk, software licensing for labs and coursework, printing services, the course management system, and off-campus access to online student services and course information. It also funds computer and network security, as well as campus network and wireless infrastructure.
The Cultural and Recreation Service Fee supports the Sarkey’s Fitness Center, which houses eight basketball courts, training rooms, multiple weight and exercise spaces, three racquetball courts, a rock-climbing wall, an indoor track, and locker room facilities. Additionally, the fee supports the Murray Case Sells Swim Complex, 10 tennis courts (with markings for Pickleball), and intramural fields.
The Facility Fee supports student facilities, including maintenance, staffing, and operations for key campus resources such as the Oklahoma Memorial Union and recreation facilities. It also funds the upkeep and modernization of classrooms and the construction of academic buildings, including recent renovations to Bizzell Library, Physical Sciences Center, and Carpenter Hall.
The Health Fee is a semesterly fee that supports access to services at Goddard Health Center. Goddard provides high-quality primary care and prevention services to students.
The International Programs Fee supports study abroad programs at OU’s study centers in Arezzo, Italy and Puebla, Mexico. This fee is a critical component to providing affordable study abroad opportunities for students.
The International Student Maintenance Fee supports the administrative services rendered by the University of Oklahoma. Services include processing, maintaining and storing certificates of eligibility, work permits, practical training permits, transfer forms, Visa extensions and expirations, and other immigration papers for international students. This fee is only charged to international students.
The Library Excellence Fee supports library staffing, the acquisition of books and other resources, and subscriptions to scholarly journals, as well as both traditional and electronic access to these materials. It helps ensure the continued expansion of library services while maintaining access to electronic journals, collections, operating hours, and other essential services. It may also support capital projects for the Libraries.
The Security Services Fee supports student-related security services on campus, including improvements to campus lighting, the installation and maintenance of emergency phones, and police and security services. These efforts help ensure a safe and secure environment for all students.
The Special Event Fee supports the costs of programs that enrich the campus experience, including commencement ceremonies, guest speakers, and the SOVAL Series events that launched in Fall 2025. These programs provide opportunities for students to have fun, engage with leading voices on important national and global issues, and connect with other students and the broader community.
The Student Activity Fee supports registered student organizations and services, including counseling and testing, student media, career services, campus facilities, and transportation, helping enhance student life and the overall student affairs experience. This fee is set and managed by the Student Government Association.
The Student Assessment Fee supports the university-wide assessment program, which evaluates academic and support services to ensure continuous improvement and institutional effectiveness. This program is required for accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and is mandated by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
The Transit Fee supports the University’s shuttle system across five campus routes. It helps eliminate student fares, increase service frequency on major routes, and serves key areas such as nearby apartments and South Greek housing, enhancing accessibility and convenience for students.
Separate from Mandatory Fees, each college has established a College Program and Technology Fee that supports instructional technology across each college, including student computing labs, classroom technology, and technical support services. These fees also support positions within the colleges to meet instructional and academic service needs, like student success coordinators, tutors, and other student-focused positions.
