services for faculty

Need to be away from campus during your regularly scheduled class time or just wish to add a guest speaker to your syllabus? As an alternative to canceling your class, let a professional Career Adviser or trained Career Coach from the OU Career Center present to your students!

The “Don't Cancel Class” program was created to help both the professor and the students. Instead of canceling a class, that time can be used as an opportunity for students to learn more about the many career-related resources OU offers. The Career Center offers various presentations on career-related topics that can be taught to any student audience. Presentations can be targeted to a specific major or career field. We are also open to additional topic requests from faculty.

Use of this program can be arranged in advance, or, due to emergency or last minute situations, can be scheduled day of, contingent upon the Career Adviser or Career Coach’s availability.

Please fill out this event request form or email careercenter@ou.edu for all related requests.

We know employers who want to know you. Employers often ask for the contact information of faculty or staff who could help them to identify students. Ideally, employers would like to develop mutually beneficial relationships with faculty and staff, and can provide many forms of support. We can help facilitate that connection.

We help your students find the right fit. We help students determine the right career for their interests, career goals, skills, values, and personality. During their academic careers, students use the Career Center to develop essential job-search skills. We are a student's best resource for job outlook, salary, and employment trend information.

Our career fairs attract many recruiters to one event. Our career fairs provide an excellent opportunity for your students to meet with representatives and establish a network of contacts from companies and industries of their choice. We will help your students research the employers beforehand and provide tips so they are prepared to effectively engage recruiters.

We help students master the job interview. There is no better way to prepare for the job interview than by experiencing an "actual" interview. At the Career Center, our Graduate Assistants conduct mock interviews with your students. Afterwards, they provide a constructive critique of the student's performance and offer effective interview strategies.

We'll bring the information to your class. We specialize in conducting presentations to classes and student organizations about a host of career-related topics such as résumé writing, job search strategies, and interviewing skills. We can arrange presentations by professionals, who can relate their experiences and how their major has helped them in their careers. Email careercenter@ou.edu to schedule a presentation
