Career Champions Program

The Career Champions Program connects the University of Oklahoma Career Center with faculty and staff across campus who are passionate about supporting students’ career and professional development. Career Champions serve as partners and advocates within their departments, helping ensure that career readiness and professional exploration are integrated into the student experience.

Through this program, the Career Center collaborates with campus partners to expand students’ access to career resources, strengthen connections between academic learning and career pathways, and promote opportunities that prepare students for life after graduation.

What is a career Champion?

Career Champions are faculty or staff members who collaborate with the Career Center to support students’ career exploration and professional development within their academic units and departments.

Career Champions help bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace by:

  • Sharing career development resources with students
  • Promoting Career Center programs, events, and services
  • Encouraging students to engage in internships, experiential learning, and professional opportunities
  • Connecting the Career Center with department-specific needs and insights
  • Helping integrate career conversations into academic spaces

By working together, Career Champions and the Career Center create a network of support that empowers students to explore possibilities, build professional skills, and confidently pursue their career goals.

why career champions matter

Career development is most impactful when it is woven throughout a student’s academic journey. Faculty and staff are often the first people students turn to for advice about their futures, making them essential partners in preparing students for meaningful careers.

The Career Champions Program helps:

  • Expand career education across campus
  • Strengthen collaboration between academic departments and the Career Center
  • Increase student awareness of career resources and opportunities
  • Support OU’s commitment to student success and post-graduation outcomes
