Your support allows the college to enhance our mission of preparing students to live productive and successful lives as citizens of a democracy. Student scholarships and fellowships, faculty support, and general unrestricted funds are just a few of the ways you can help us as we continue to provide the best educational experience to our students.

The Buchanan Society

Honoring the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences’ first dean, James Shannon Buchanan, The Buchanan Society is the leadership annual giving society comprised of alumni and friends of the College.

Society members may choose to participate at levels outline below, which recognizes annual gifts to the Society fund.

Scholarship Gifts

Students are the heart of everything at the University of Oklahoma and the need for scholarship support is very real. Thanks to your support, the college has increased the number of scholarships we offer in the last decade. However, with the increasing cost of higher education, additional scholarships are needed. Annual scholarships, designated for specific majors or all Arts and Sciences programs, can be established for $1,000 or you can designate smaller gifts to a general scholarship fund for Arts and Sciences students.

Please help us ensure that the doors of opportunity remain open for every deserving student who wants to attend OU and be a part of the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences.

Annual Giving

Annual donations help in countless ways – providing scholarships that allow students to focus more on studying than working to pay the bills; paying for teaching resources that enable faculty to purchase much-needed classroom equipment or software; and boosting smaller programs, such as support to send a student to a national conference.

Corporate Gifts

Gifts from corporations benefit both the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences and the company. Corporate support is critical to the life of the college and provides the company with a strong identity with our students and faculty. We are grateful to the following corporations for their support of the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences.

Endowed Gifts

Endowment funds are the foundation that has allowed OU to move into the top tier of American public universities.

An endowment leaves the principal donation intact, with only the earnings from the investment spent for the purpose designated by the donor. Arts and Sciences donors can create endowments to support a wide range of programs and areas.

Currently, the majority of our endowed funds support named scholarships and faculty positions.

Endowed Scholarships

Students are the heart of everything we do at the University of Oklahoma. The opportunity to attend OU has changed thousands of lives since the University was founded. Endowed scholarship support in the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences will improve the lives of deserving young people for generations to come, with only the earnings expended each year, leaving the principal intact.

Scholarship endowments can be created with at least $25,000, which will support one $1,200 award each year. They can be restricted to a favorite department or school or be left unrestricted to be used where they are needed most.

Leadership Scholars scholarship endowments of at least $30,000 allow the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences to recognize top students with awards of $1,500 per year. The Leadership Scholars Program recognizes undergraduate students in the College who have a meritorious record of academic achievement and university or community leadership or service. Leadership Scholars interact with accomplished mentors and attend monthly meetings to discuss leadership and other issues with special guest speakers. The Leadership Scholars also serve as the College’s ambassadors during special events such as meetings with alumni and other invited guests

Endowed Faculty Positions

The quality of our faculty is the foundation upon which academic excellence is built. Private gifts to establish endowed faculty chairs are key to recruiting, retaining, and rewarding outstanding faculty.

Endowed faculty and chair positions allow OU to recruit and retain highly regarded teachers and researchers – the kind of individuals who can take existing programs to a new level. In many cases, these faculty members are catalysts to draw other outstanding faculty, additional research dollars, top graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows.

Endowed Professorships can be established with a gift of $500,000 while Endowed Chairs are $1,000,000. Additionally, donors can endow a Presidential Professorship in their names or as designated with a gift of at least $200,000.

Planned Gifts

Through a planned or deferred gift, donors can reach across the generations to touch the future of OU and its students. A donor may make his or her gift unrestricted so that it can be used in an area where it is needed most, or may designate the gift to benefit a favorite department or school within the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences.

Planned gifts are as unique as each individual who makes one and may be tailored in a way that best serves the donor's needs, objectives, and wishes, as well as those of the College.

These important gifts can offer significant tax- and estate-planning benefits for donors.

Our development staff will work with donors and their representatives on a variety of planned options to support the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences, including bequests, charitable remainder trusts, real estate, and life insurance.

OU has established a special organization, the George Lynn Cross Heritage Society (link to Development page on GLC Society), to honor donors who have made planned gifts to the University. The Heritage Society is named for Dr. Cross, OU's beloved seventh president, whose many contributions to OU included the establishment of the University of Oklahoma Foundation to serve as the guardian of private gifts.
