I have been interested in science since my childhood. When I was in high school in Shanghai, every student needed to take Chinese, English, Math, and one optional course, between Physics, Chemistry, biology, politics, geology, and history, in the College Entrance Examination. I picked Chemistry because of my scientific interest, and, to me, Chemistry was easier than other courses. And it did help me to get into my university. Then I thought, since I am still interested, why wouldn’t I continue? So now here I am.
Now I work with Dr. Sharma. My current project is to synthesize a natural product called Collybolide. This molecule can specifically bind to the κ opioid receptors in human brain, which causing analgesic effect. Synthesizing this molecule and its analogs may help the drug development in that area.
Hopefully, I can graduate next summer. I plan to do post-doc for 1 or 2 more years to find out what will be the next step for me.
