My name is Daniel McSwain, I am a member of the Natural Products Discovery Group (NPDG) under Dr. Robert Cichewicz. I am pursuing my PhD in Chemistry with an Analytical Chemistry emphasis. I received my B.S. in Chemistry from The University of Texas at Tyler.

I started my collegiate education journey as a Biochemistry major with a Pre-Medical emphasis. My first semester of undergraduate, I decided to follow my passion for pure chemistry and changed my major. After that, I was engaged in undergraduate research, and served as President of my ACS Student Chapter. I had the opportunity to present at the National ACS Conference two years in a row, as well as receiving various departmental awards.

For some time, I have been interested in chemical instrumentation and how it can be used to qualitatively and quantitatively observe the natural world. In my research lab, I am currently purifying fungal extracts and testing these fractions for activity against malaria, after which I will attempt to isolate and elucidate structures of active compounds. After graduation, I plan to either go into research as a full-time faculty member or research professor, or go into the chemical industry.
