M.S., Chemistry, Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh
During my BSc (Honours) phase, I studied several theoretical and practical courses in physical, organic, inorganic and analytical chemistry. Since I was passionate about exploring a research-oriented career, I decided to do a thesis-based Master’s degree after completing the BSc (Honours) degree. My thesis project on “Physicochemical studies of the interaction between reactive dye and polymer” eventually led to the publication of a research article. During my master’s thesis, I investigated the influence of the polymer, Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), on spectral properties of anionic azo dyes, Reactive Yellow, Reactive Red and Reactive Black by UV-visible spectroscopic method. The removal of dye from waste water by the interaction of dye with polymer in presence of surfactant and salt was also observed. As a consequence of my achievement in my master’s thesis, I was awarded the prestigious National Science and Technology (NST) Fellowship in 2014 by Ministry of Science and Technology, Bangladesh. Beside this, I also received some other government and university scholarships for having merit position in my class.
Thereafter, I explored career options at South China Bleaching and Dyeing Factory Ltd., Dhaka, Bangladesh as a trainee (Internship). I also have some teaching experience in Anjuman Mokhlesur Rahman Polytechnique Institute, Dhaka, Bangladesh. There I taught chemistry courses and lab classes for diploma engineering level students and prepared examination questions and reviewed the answer scripts. Then I started working as a Scientist at Radiation Control Division, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority, Dhaka, Bangladesh. There I was involved in inspection of different radiation facilities, reporting and providing licenses to radiation users for their facilities. After that, I worked as a Research Fellow at Industrial Microbiology Laboratory, Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), Dhaka, Bangladesh. At IFST, BCSIR, my research interest was focused on the chemistry of natural products. I had been working on isolation and decolorization of stevioside from stevia leaf extracts. Now I have started my PhD in Chemistry (Inorganic Chemistry) at University of Oklahoma.
I believe, this PhD program will be a priceless milestone for me and will provide me a great opportunity to build up my future professional career in academia or as a researcher in any reputed organization.
