The Scientific Glassblowing Laboratory's primary customers have been research and teaching facilities from all campuses of the University of Oklahoma. Operational changes have been made, and we can now accept work requests from any customer in the scientific community, both non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses!

Services provided include the fabrication of custom designed glass and quartz apparatus, modification and repair of laboratory apparatus as well as consultation on apparatus design. The fabrication of catalog items is of very low priority due to the high demand for custom designed glassware and repairs and our inability to compete with commercial glassblowing facilities. All pieces submitted for modification or repair MUST be thoroughly degreased and cleaned prior to submission!

The Lab carries a large inventory of glass tubing, ground joints, threads and stopcocks as well as commonly used quartz tubing and ground joints. Non-inventory glass and quartz tubing and parts will be ordered to complete your job requests.

The hands-on glassblowing class (CHEM 4232, EPHY 4232) is taught in the Scientific Glassblowing Laboratory during the Fall and Spring semesters. Instructor permission is required for this course! Interested students must make arrangements to meet with the instructor to receive permission to enroll in this course.

The Scientific Glassblowing Laboratory is located in the Stephenson Life Sciences Research Center, room 3300. Customer consultation hours are from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. The Lab is closed for lunch from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, on official holidays as determined by the University and when the Scientific Glassblower is away on business or personal leave. Consultation and job submission may also be arranged at other times by appointment if you are unable to meet during regular working hours.
