Every first-year student is required to take one of four different course offerings to complete the First-Year Experience Core V General Education requirement. Courses enhance a first-year experience by cultivating a supportive student community that thrives on interactive learning.
This course enhances a first-year experience by cultivating a supportive student community that thrives on interactive learning. Materials covered include readings and films ranging from ancient epics and Philosophy through contemporary science fiction, representing what is taught in the rich diversity of Humanities disciplines in DFCAS, including African and African-American Studies, Classics and Letters, English, Environmental Studies, Film and Media Studies, History, History of Sciences, Technology and Medicine, Latinx Studies, Modern Languages, Literatures and Linguistics, Native American Studies, Philosophy, Pre-Law, Religious Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies.

This course enhances a first-year experience by cultivating a supportive student community. Students actively examine research methodologies within the social sciences. Students also gain an understanding of the rich diversity of disciplines within the Social Sciences, including Anthropology, Communication, Data Scholarship, Economics, Human Relations, Library and Information Sciences, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work and Sociology.

Students examine ethical and intercultural leadership through an interdisciplinary lens. Students have an opportunity to practice ethical and moral decision-making and other skills and attitudes that are beneficial for leading and facilitating intercultural groups in the campus and community environments.
