Mari Morgan is a second-year M.A. Student in the University of Oklahoma's History Department. A colonial Latin Americanist with a secondary field in the American West, Mari is currently focusing on the Genizaras and other female Indigenous captive-servants in eighteenth-century New Mexico for her thesis. As such, she is interested in captivity-studies, borderlands history, and closing the archival silence.
Born in Guatemala and raised in Tennessee, Mari graduated with Highest Honors at the University of Tennessee-Martin, earning a Bachelor of Arts in History, with a concentration in Native American History, and a Bachelor of Arts in English, with a concentration in Irish Literature, in 2024. During her gap year, she was pre-kindergarten teacher, adding onto her many years of teaching/tutoring!
Besides teaching, writing, and reading as a History graduate student, Mari is a published poet and creative writer. She adores the Arts, submitting movie reviews, poems, and short stories to literary and pop culture magazines on a steady basis.
