Immersive Arabic Program Announced for Summer 2025

Applications Now Open!

The School Break Arabic Program is an 8-week, fully in-person Arabic summer course for high school students and eligible OU students. It is hosted by the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at the University of Oklahoma and made possible by a generous grant from Qatar Foundation International (QFI).

Important Note

This is a fully in-person program. Students must be able to commute to the OU Norman campus every weekday. Daily attendance is required Monday through Friday for the full 8-week session.Shape

Program Overview

  • Dates: June 9 to August 1, 2025 (8 weeks)

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday

  • Time: Morning sessions (approx. 2 hours/day)

  • Location: Kaufman Hall, OU Norman Campus

  • Department: Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics

  • Format: In-person only

This intensive course introduces students to Modern Standard Arabic and Arab cultures, while building foundational skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It’s designed to be immersive, engaging, and accessible to both beginners and continuing learners.Shape

Who Can Apply?

  • High school juniors or seniors during the 2024–2025 school year

  • Current University of Oklahoma students (in-person attendance required)

  • Must be at least 16 years old by June 9, 2025

  • Must be able to attend daily, in-person classes at the OU Norman campus for the full 8 weeks

  • No prior Arabic experience is requiredShape

  2. Personal Statement (300–500 words)
    Tell us why you want to study Arabic, what you're curious about, and what you hope to gain. We want to hear about your motivation and commitment
  3. One Letter of Recommendation
    From a teacher, counselor, coach, work manager, or school official who can speak to your interest, effort, and readinessShape
