Profile

Mohammad Almasri is ConocoPhillips Associate Professor of Arabic with a joint appointment in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Linguistics and the Department of International and Area Studies. Dr. Almasri received his PhD in phonetics from the University of Kansas with a focus on Arabic speech sounds. He received his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in English language and translation from Yarmouk University in Jordan.

Dr. Almasri’s research focuses on Arabic speech sounds, Arabic dialectology, and the teaching of Arabic as a second language. Dr. Almasri is also recognized for his expertise in the administration of Arabic programs, study abroad, teacher training, and the development of Arabic test materials for professional organizations.

Dr. Almasri teaches regularly Arabic media and politics, readings in Islamic texts, and courses on Arabic language and culture. He served as the former director of the Arabic Flagship Program at the University of Oklahoma. Currently, Dr. Almasri is a member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the Middle Eastern Studies Association (MESA), and is a board member of the Center for Arabic Study Abroad (CASA).
