National Public Health Week at OU

The OK HIV Prevention Co-Op will be on campus during National Public Health Week to offer free HIV testing! Testing is free, private, and open to the OU community. No registration or insurance required.

Come by the Conoco Student Leadership Center on the 2nd floor of the Oklahoma Memorial Union (map here) to learn about HIV prevention, grab some free swag, and get tested.

Join us for free dinner and an interactive Medical Spanish Workshop designed for students interested in healthcare and cross-cultural communication.

Whether you're pre-med, pre-PA, nursing, public health, or simply interested in improving communication with Spanish-speaking patients, this workshop is a great place to begin. No prior Spanish experience is required—activities are designed for both beginners and advanced learners.

Participants will rotate through hands-on stations simulating real healthcare communication scenarios in Spanish, including:

  • Patient intake and check-in
  • Clinical interviews
  • Physical exam communication
  • Pharmacy instructions
  • Emergency/triage situations
  • Medical interpreting
  • Preventive medicine and mental health communication

Come for the learning, stay for the fun! There will be food, prizes, and great opportunities to connect with other students interested in healthcare and language access.

Fall 2025 Graduation Reception

Representatives from the Public & Community Health Programs attended OPHA's 2025 annual conference on September 15th and 16th. In attendance were program director Dr. Anne Pate, and PHCH students Kaella Glenn, Sadie Trotter, Bethany Barnes, Anna Palmer and Julie Abe. At the awards ceremony, Dr. Pate was presented with the Outstanding Educator Award, and Kaella was awarded the Fall 2025 Pam Rask Scholarship. Way to go, PHCH team!

Fall Welcome Back Event for PHCH Students

Yoga on the SOVAL takes place during dead week to give students a chance to relax from their studying and take time to do something for themselves. Come join Public & Community Health students and take a break for some self care!

In case of rain, this event will be held in the Cross D Rehearsal Nook

Join us for a free film screening to close out National Public Health Week! We will be watching the 2011 film Contagion, a medical thriller about a fictional global pandemic. For accommodations on the basis of disability, please contact the PHCH office at (405) 325-0595.

Sooner Fuel is a student-led healthy nutrition initiative created by a group of senior capstone students. This initiative aims to improve awareness and accessibility to nutritional education on campus. The Sooner Fuel stations will be at the South Oval, offering students free and healthy food options while educating them about balanced nutrition. These stations will feature pre-packaged snacks, fresh produce, and educational materials about healthy eating on a budget.

An event for OU students, hosted by PHCH seniors, to talk about the norms of drinking within the college campus and to bring awareness to the dangers of binge drinking. There will be free pizza and a guest speaker.
