My name is Luka, and I focus on theoretical open quantum systems, which has traditionally been viewed as a part of theoretical AMO physics — in particular, of theoretical quantum optics. Open quantum systems, however, is in some sense its own field: it plays a central role in fundamental physics like nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, it has played a key role in motivating areas of mathematical physics (e.g., quantum stochastic calculus, quantum filtering, and stochastic control of quantum systems). Moreover, since “opening” a quantum system introduces decoherence, understanding open quantum dynamics is paramount when one is considering quantum technologies, like quantum computers, networks, or sensors.
I am focused on the dynamical side of things. My interests lie in non-Markovian open systems, including quantum biological systems. I am also very interested in quantum filtering.
