Dr. Buffy Edwards, Senior Lecturer and Internship Support Specialist, is an enthusiastic faculty member with experience working in a variety of library and information center settings, including decades in school librarianship. Earning both her degrees at the University of Oklahoma - Master of Library and Information Studies at SLIS (1989) and Ph.D. in Instructional Psychology and Technology (2008) - she is proud to be a Sooner. Dr. Edwards was named the SLIS 2016 Outstanding Alumni and is excited to be a part of the faculty. Buffy is the lead faculty for SLIS's study abroad OU in Italy: Libraries, Archives, and Museums, now in its fourth year.
As an active professional, Buffy serves in multiple capacities with the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), including Chair-elect for the Educators of School Librarians and a member of the School Library Research Editorial Board. Buffy presents at state, national, and international conferences, and continues membership in professional organizations. Dr. Edwards has extensive teaching experience in Pre-K - 20 settings, a strong background in children and youth services, and her research interests are motivation and reading, equitable access to library resources, the influence of trained, professional librarians on student learning, and the quality of school libraries.
