OU Sociology Graduate Students organize Rally in Support of Asian Community

OU Sociology Graduate Students Tiffanie Vo, Sally Wiser, and Haifan Xiao organized university wide a rally last weekend in response to the growing wave of anti-Asian sentiment and hate crimes as well as the Atlanta, Georgia Spa shooting on March 16th.   About 100 people attended from across the broader OU and Norman community, and the OU Sociology Department.  At the beginning of the rally many speakers shared their feelings about the shooting and experiences with prejudice and discrimination.  Participants then lined up on both sides of Main Street to demonstrate their support of the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community by displaying signs with messages such as "Stop Asian Hate" and "Empower Asian Voices".

“We are standing together to bring attention to the discrimination faced by Asian communities throughout the U.S.” - Haifan Xiao

“Don’t tell me it’s not the Asian American community’s time to fight racial injustice, because it’s long overdue.” - Tiffanie Vo
