Mitch's research focuses on inequality with a particular focus on how interactions between individuals and institutions create and maintain inequalities. Most of his work focuses on the doctor-patient encounter and the processes in that relationship that create and maintain health inequalities. In addition, he has examined the role of race in the juvenile justice system. He teaches several undergraduate and graduate courses in statistics and research methods, medical sociology, and stratification.
