While serving as a GRA at the Knee Institute, I assisted researchers in furthering the development of two different projects.
I aided Dr. December Maxwell in her ongoing research regarding an Informal Means of Healing Postnatal PTSD Through Tattoo. I enjoyed exploring the literature and broadening my overall understanding of previous research on similar and related topics in order to support the research. I was also able to gain experience writing a manuscript introduction which was very beneficial to my development as a GRA.
I also worked with Amanda Clark-Andrejkovics and Jasmine Aaenson Fletcher to explore their research on dance therapy and developmental disabilities. The part of this ongoing project that I found most interesting was the data analysis of participant interviews. Understanding the impact that dance therapy can have on those with developmental disabilities through the lens of participants was a very impactful part of my learning.
While at the Knee Institute, I was also able to assist in the holding of the research event “Innovations and Best Practices in Prevention and Preparedness of Disaster and Related Displacement” in December of 2024 as a support volunteer. I valued getting to learn about this topic from the perspectives of individuals with different backgrounds. I am very appreciative to have been involved in some manner.
