Jane is a CIWRO Research Scientist at the NWS Training Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She supports training endeavors for the NWS, as a part of the Decision Support and Communication Services and the Leadership Academy Teams. Her focus is supporting decision support training also know in the NWS as IDSS (Impact-based Decision Support Services).

The path to her current career in meteorology took some twists and turns. From a young age, she knew she wanted to study meteorology. Jane  was raised on a farm in Bowling Green, Missouri. Her interest in meteorology grew from observing the impacts of a well-timed rain event or the obstacles that developed because of a weather incident.

Jane completed an undergraduate degree at Mizzou in 2011. Then she took a break from science to get a master’s degree in Learning, Teaching and Curriculum - Mathematics Education. She taught high school math for three years, and her courses included everything from Pre-Algebra to Calculus. (She snuck in a little weather knowledge to my students as well.) However, she knew that her true passion was atmospheric science, so she started a PhD program in 2016 and very excitedly returned to campus. After 4 years of balancing coursework, teaching assistantships, part-time positions and research, she completed her PhD and accepted the position at the Training Center to use both her education and atmospheric science skills.
