Michael Stock is an expert on lightning physics, location, and instrumentation. After graduating from New Mexico Tech, he did a postdoc in Osaka Japan developing a real-time lightning interferometer system, and was the head of the research and development team at Earth Networks in charge of their global lightning location network. His current research interests include: remote and in-situ observations of lightning and thunderstorms to investigate the initiation, growth, and decay of lightning streamers and leaders; development of methods and instrumentation to remotely detect, locate, and characterize lightning; and using lightning as a proxy to predict severe weather, climate, and other hazards.
