Pat studies the dynamics and prediction of severe thunderstorms. The majority of his current research is devoted towards development of applications for and verification of ensemble guidance of thunderstorm hazards produced by the Warn-on-Forecast project. These methods aim to quantify forecast improvements to help guide research on convective-scale data assimilation and to provide operational meteorologists with useful real-time forecast products. He also maintains an interest in supercell dynamics, including using data assimilation of field project observations retrieve kinematic and thermodynamic properties within convective storms and development of bistatic radar systems for real-time 3D wind retrieval.
