Travis works closely with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Weather Service (NWS) in the Forecast Decision Training Division (FDTD). In his role, he develops training courses for operational meteorologists and hydrologists in the NWS. His goal is to improve the performance of NWS meteorologists and hydrologists to make better informed decisions and provide better weather forecasts, warnings and other weather, climate, and water-related information to the general public and partners, including emergency management. His current projects entail using probabilistic data from ensemble forecast systems to provide more accurate and better-informed weather and hydrological forecasts.

He grew up in northern California and graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Statistics from Sonoma State University. While he loves math and analyzing data, his greatest passion has been weather since early childhood. He attended graduate school at Iowa State University and completed his Master’s degree in Meteorology in June 2023. His thesis research area was in mesoscale and boundary layer meteorology. He studied the influence of several mesoscale boundary layer convective features on surface wind speed and heat flux (sensible and latent) variability in the southern Great Plains using surface observations and numerical modeling. His hobbies include travel (domestic and international), hiking, photography, chess, storm chasing, video games, and reading.
