Tommy Bounds serves as an assistant professor in the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma. He is a teaching focused faculty member committed to employing effective teaching strategies. His research primarily explores the interplay between structures and soil in the context of climate change.

Before starting as faculty at OU, he was a postdoctoral fellow supervised by Prof. K.K. “Muralee” Muraleetharan researching Socially Sustainable Solutions for Water, Carbon, and Infrastructure Resilience in Oklahoma. He earned his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in civil engineering from the University of Oklahoma and conducted his Ph.D. research under Prof. Gerald Miller and Prof. Muralee. His Ph.D. research focused on the interactions between bridges, approach roadways, and embankments. He also worked in the industry as a project engineer in Oklahoma and the surrounding states.
