Professor Shi was born in Changchun, China. He received his MS degree in electrical engineering from Jilin University in China in 1987. He earned his PhD degree from physics department at the University of Freiburg in Germany in 1995.
Zhisheng Shi was a full-time research staff in Changchun Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Science from 1987 to 1992. He was awarded a scholarship from German Aeronautics and Space Administration in 1992. He worked at Fraunhofer Institute (FhG) of Physical Measurement Techniques (IpM) in Freiburg Germany while in parallel studying for his Ph.D. degree. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1995. He was a postdoctoral research staff at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich from 1995 to 1997. He took a faculty position in the school of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Oklahoma in 1997. He was honored as Gerald Tuma Presidential Professor in 2007.
The Opto-Electronic Research Group led by Shi at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering has been actively involved in the thin film semiconductor research.
