ISE team at the 2025-2026 Material Handling Capstone Design Competition.
The Gallogly College of Engineering is pleased to announce that a team of senior Industrial and Systems Engineering students earned third place in the 2025-2026 Material Handling Capstone Design Competition, organized by the Material Handling Industry (MHI) and the College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE).
The OU team partnered with Bosch on its project, “Dynamic Nesting Value Stream Evaluation.” Student team members Kaden Holt, Ralford Mullings and Lucas Edwards completed the project under the guidance of faculty advisors Drs. Byeong-Min Roh and Doyle Dodd.
“I would like to recognize the team’s effort in identifying and researching Industrial and Systems Engineering tools that were new to them, particularly value stream mapping. Their waste analysis and Kaizen burst package were especially strong and added clear value to the overall report. Throughout the project, the students were respectful of the workplace and its processes and conducted themselves professionally. They were highly self-directed and asked thoughtful questions when support was truly needed.” Alan Michael Blythe, senior manufacturing engineer at Bosch, said.
The annual competition challenges undergraduate students to apply their engineering knowledge to real-world material handling challenges while working with industry partners. This year, the competition received 11 submissions from six universities.
Projects were evaluated by industry and academic judges based on project complexity and outcome success, creativity in addressing the problem, potential impact and contribution to the material handling industry, quality of deliverables, and effective communication of the problem, approach, design and results.
The 2025-2026 competition was supported by MHI sponsors, including the MHI Solutions Community, Swisslog, KNAPP, Proactive Global and Fives Intralogistics Corp.
