The Southern Plains Transportation Center (SPTC) is a consortium of 11 diverse academic institutions from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Region 6: The University of Oklahoma (OU is consortium lead), Oklahoma State University (OSU), University of Arkansas (UARK), The University of New Mexico (UNM), Navajo Tech University (NTU), Louisiana Tech University (LTU), Louisiana State University (LSU), The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), El Paso Community College (EPCC), Texas Southern University (TSU), and Texas A&M University Texas Transportation Institute (TAMU TTI).

SPTC was named by the USDOT as the 2023 Region 6 BIL University Transportation Center! With a “sharing to gain” culture and an annual budget of $3 million from the USDOT and dollar-for-dollar match by non-federal sources, SPTC’s research efforts will address the USDOT statutory research priority “D: Improving the Durability and Extending the Life of Transportation Infrastructure.” Under this statutory priority, the research program will address the USDOT strategic goal “Climate and Sustainability” as primary and “Economic Strength and Global Competitiveness” and “Safety” as two complementary, secondary strategic goals.
