Dr. Jayash Paudel is an Associate Professor of Economics (with tenure) at the University of Oklahoma. He received a B.A. in Mathematical Economics from Colorado College, and a Ph.D. in Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has published about 35 peer-reviewed journal articles in the fields of Environmental, Energy and Development Economics. He serves as the Managing Editor of World Development Perspectives, and an Associate Editor of Energy Economics. Before pursuing Ph.D., he worked for the World Bank Group and Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL). He previously co-authored one of the chapters in the Fifth National Climate Assessment (NCA5) released by the White House. At the University of Oklahoma, he has been recognized with the Irene Rothbaum Outstanding Assistant Professor Award from the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences, and the Presidential Teaching Fellowship in the Honors College.
His research examines how individuals adjust to changes in their environment that, in turn, have an impact on both economic welfare and environmental quality. His published research focuses on the economics of natural disasters, water quality, energy poverty and policy-relevant topics related to food and agriculture. While his research focuses predominantly on the US and Nepal, he has published articles on policy-relevant topics in India, China, Cambodia, South Korea, Brazil and sub-Saharan Africa. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the US Department of Agriculture, among others.
