Dr. Kayla Crouso

Lecturer at the Department of Human Relations

Dr. Kayla Crouso is a Lecturer in the Department of Human Relations and teaches interdisciplinary courses on applied ethics, combining theoretical and practical knowledge from the social sciences, cultural studies, and organizational studies. Having lived and worked in diverse contexts globally, her scholarship and teaching are grounded in intercultural engagement, transformative learning, and the pursuit of peace through education.

Her research focuses on satyagraha and nonviolence, transformative education, critical pedagogy, interculturalism, decoloniality, social change, anthropology of education, environmental reciprocity, and collective thrivability. Her doctoral work in educational philosophy draws on ethnographic research with local schools in Gujarat, India to explore holistic education as an empowering practice for cultivating justice, sustainability, and human flourishing. This culminated in her dissertation Education as Satyagraha: An Intercultural Philosophy of Education for Sustainable Development and Cultural Transformation Toward Peace and Nonviolence.

She is developing a study abroad course on intercultural collaboration for social change in India.
