2020 Diversity Symposium

Faculty and students of the Graduate Studies and Research Office in the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education played host to the annual Diversity Scholarship Symposium March 4-6.

 

The week began with a keynote speech from Laura Muñoz, Ph.D., assistant professor of history and ethnic studies at the University of Nebraska. Muñoz met with graduate students in a workshop before her address covering the topic of borders, migration and the contestations of freedom and control.

On March 5, Professor Rockey Robbins, Associate Professor Mirelsie Velázquez and Assistant Professor Heidi Torres took part in a panel discussion moderated by Professor Curt Adams. The discussion focused visible and invisible forms of state violence and community resistance.
 

The week concluded with the Graduate Student Advisory and Organizing Committee leading a scholarly conversation circle to discuss the making and unmaking of people and subjects.
