Ja’Corie Maxwell is an Instructor in the Department of Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum and Educational Studies within Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education at the University of Oklahoma. In addition, he also serves as the Coordinator of both JRCoE ’s First-Generation Initiative and First Year Experience. During the Summer, he serves as the Co-Director of the Find Your Future, a summer program for high school students who are interested in in becoming educators.
Dr. Maxwell’s research explores how race, trauma, and broader social systems, such as class, gender, and ability, shape students’ educational experiences. Drawing on Afropessimism and Critical Race Theory, his work examines the lasting effects of racialized schooling and the ways inequity becomes embedded in educational structures. He also studies curriculum, teacher preparation, and educational psychology to better understand how schools can create conditions that support equity, reflection, and transformation for both students and educators.
Dr. Maxwell earned his Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership and Curriculum from the University of Oklahoma in 2024. His work has been published in the Southeastern Regional Association of Teacher Educators Journal, Oklahoma Council of Teachers of Mathematics Journal, and the Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching. His emerging line of inquiry explores the educational experiences of students within racialized schooling contexts, examining how policy, history, and belonging intersect to shape equity and curriculum design.
