Sooner Works at the University of Oklahoma is an inclusive, four-year certificate program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). The program offers a true college experience—classes, internships, campus life, and social opportunities—while providing structured support to help students build independence and prepare for competitive employment.
Students in Sooner Works are OU students first. They live and learn alongside their peers, manage their own schedules, and are responsible for meeting academic and personal expectations. While guidance and coaching are available, the program is not a 24/7 supervision model. Students are expected to demonstrate maturity, follow the OU Student Code of Conduct, and actively engage in their own success.
The program is built around four core pillars:
Academic Enrichment: coursework that connects to interests and career goals.
Crimson Career Readiness: internships and employment experiences that develop workplace skills.
Life & Leadership Development: support in daily living, self-advocacy, and decision-making.
Campus & Community Engagement: opportunities to participate fully in the social and cultural life of OU and the surrounding community.
Upon completion, students earn a university-recognized certificate in Integrated Community Studies. This credential, combined with real-world experiences, equips graduates for greater independence, leadership, and meaningful employment.
