Certification Courses

This course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies; as well as learning to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.

The process to achieve the Lifeguard Certification is divided into two sections: Precourse Swimming Skills Evaluation Sessions and the full Lifeguarding Certification Courses.

The Precourse Swimming Skills Evaluation Sessions consist of a 300-yard continuous swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, treading water for 2 minutes using only the legs, and completing a timed swimming event within 1 minute and 40 seconds. You must successfully complete the Precourse Session before you are able to enroll for the full Lifeguarding Certification Course. Upon successful completion of the Precourse Session, you will be given a “special authorization code” to enter in order to allow the checkout process to take place for the full course. If a participant does not successfully complete the Precourse Session, they can enroll in another Precourse Session, if so desired. Precourse Sessions are $25 plus tax per session.

Note- Students must enroll in a Lifeguarding Prerequisite course and successfully pass the Prerequisite skills before the first day of the Full Lifeguarding course they attend. ** To participate in any Red Cross Lifeguarding course you must be at least 15 years of age on or before the final day of the class.

The full Lifeguarding Certification Course is $275 plus tax.

Once enrolled in the full Lifeguarding Course, you will receive an email confirmation with a link to the eLearning component. All eLearning material must be completed prior to the first day of the Lifeguarding course. To successfully complete the Lifeguarding course, participants must attend and participate in all class sessions, demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities, and pass the final written exams with minimum grades of 80 percent.
