The "Summer Jazz Collective" Project
June 14 - 17, 2023
The University of Oklahoma Jazz Program in collaboration with Jazz in June is excited to announce the newest jazz education experience in Oklahoma, the "Summer Jazz Collective" Project, or SJC!
This experience will include a four-day camp at the University of Oklahoma where participants will work with OU faculty and the Jazz in June headliners! During the camp participants will be up close and personal with both OU Faculty and festival artist in rehearsals, sectionals, and masterclasses as they prepare to perform the opening set for the festival headliner on the final night of the festival.
Students will have a front row seat at all of the festival events and be able to ask questions and study with those who are considered to be among the finest jazz musicians in the world. Through some intense hard work they will also form some important and lasting relationships. This will undoubtedly be one of their most rewarding accomplishments. Additionally, as part of the experience, festival headliners will join the SJC on stage in front of thousands of people!
Past headliners for the festival include multiple time grammy award winners like David Sanborn, Ellis Marsalis, Robert "Sput" Searight, Mark Lettieri, Paquito D' Rivera, Thelonius Monk Jr, Eric Marienthal and more. This camp will be EPIC! Please share this information with your students. All-State Jazz participants will automatically receive invitations to the ensemble. Other participants will receive invitations based on audition performance and director recommendations.
Contact Prof. Jay Wilkinson at jazzprof@ou.edu or Dr. Lonnie Easter at lonnie.easter-1@ou.edu for more details.

Openings remain for piano and guitar. Other spots are filled for 2023, but you can still register if you would like to be considered as an alternate.
We are compiling a list of alternates, in case spots open up. So register even if your instrument's section is filled. If a spot opens up, we might contact you about participating.
We will attempt to notify everyone of placement by April 1.
