Emily Brown is an Assistant Professor of Visual Communication in the School of Visual Arts at the University of Oklahoma. She holds an M.F.A. in Visual Communication Design from The University of Texas at Arlington, a B.F.A. in Visual Communication Design from The University of Texas at Arlington, a B.A. in Art History from Baylor University, and an M.A. in Art History from Texas Christian University

Emily’s research takes an interdisciplinary approach to design, often combining industry practice in identity design, history of design, social commentary design, illustration, printmaking, and photography. Her current interests include exploring the role of identity design in social culture, expanding design pedagogy for the 21st century, and the role of humor and play in design. She enjoys juxtaposing old and new technologies in order to examine the dynamic creative intersections between past and present narratives.

Her research has been published in Logo Lounge, Mastering Type 2nd Edition, and Graphis, as well as winning numerous awards in national and international design competitions such as Print, Graphis, and United Design Alliance.
