Spring 2024 graduate Dr. Qian Yu has published her first book, "The Rise of the Hedge Fund Era: Threats to Journalism and the News Industry," based on research developed through her dissertation at Gaylord College. The book offers a systematic and in-depth examination of hedge fund ownership in the U.S. newspaper industry and its effects on journalism, combining longitudinal financial analysis with interviews of media professionals.
The work features forewords by two of her doctoral committee members: Dr. Peter Gade and Dr. David Craig.
“After six years of working with my faculty advisor[s], I can confidently say I made the best possible choice,” said Yu. “I was drawn to Gaylord's outstanding reputation of distinguished scholars whose academic achievements and professional ethics are widely recognized.”
Yu is now a tenure-track assistant professor of communication at Eastern New Mexico University.
