How do I get involved with OU Nightly?
At the end of each semester, OU Nightly faculty releases an online application for students to apply. If you want to join when our application is not open, contact us at OUNightlyNews@ou.edu!
Do I have to be a Gaylord major to apply to OU Nightly?
No! Students with any major can apply to join OU Nightly!
What’s the difference between editorial and production?
Editorial is responsible for all content in the newscast including scripts, graphics, and videos. This includes our anchors, reporters, and producers. Our production team works behind the scenes running studio equipment, live shots, audio, graphics, and more.
How do I become an on-air anchor or reporter on air?
To become an on-air anchor or reporter, students must complete a minimum of one semester of production crew. Once that semester is complete, students have the opportunity to audition for on-air positions!
Do I get class credit for OU Nightly?
Yes, students can receive class credit for OU Nightly! According to Gaylord College, students need one practicum credit, which is typically found in various Gaylord organizations. OU Nightly offers two choices, one for editorial and one for production. Both require three days of work per week to receive credit once the semester is finished.
Can I get paid for OU Nightly?
Yes, OU Nightly students can get paid for their time! The only positions that remain unpaid are anchors and reporters. Students can apply for paid positions after completing one semester of production crew.
What’s the time commitment for OU Nightly?
Every day, editorial arrives at 2:00 p.m. and production arrives at 3:00 p.m. Students prepare for the newscast until it airs at 4:30 p.m. Once the newscast ends at 5:00 p.m., editorial and production meet in Room 1000 for critique, which typically finishes within an hour.
Do I need my own equipment to join OU Nightly?
OU Nightly does not require students to provide their own equipment! Students can check out any necessary equipment through Gaylord College.
