Building upon the OU Faculty Investment Program-funded phases of the sOUnd lab and his recent visit to Kirkegaard Associates’ design lab (seen in lower left), Associate Professor Daniel Butko is developing thin shell precast concrete acoustical panels with Coreslab Structures, Inc. Acoustical testing at Riverbank Labs is slated for October, followed by an ASA International Conference paper presentation in November. Butko is collaborating with Civil Engineering PhD student Trevor Looney to incorporate additives which will provide cavities for sound absorption. Thank you to Coreslab for a $20,000 in-kind allocation of resources and materials, coupled with additional support from Reckli US Formliners, Inc. Gibbs College of Architecture Institute for Quality Communities (IQC) Director and Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Design (PLAD) faculty member Amber N. Wiley, Ph.D., recently published a new book, Collective Yearning: Black Women Artists from the Zimmerli Art Museum.
In May, students from the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture's Architecture, Environmental Design, and Interior Design programs participated in an intensive five-day Studio in Residence at Taliesin West, the iconic winter home and desert laboratory of Frank Lloyd Wright.
