OU Humanities Forum Fellow and assistant professor of architecture Deborah Richards and assistant professor of architecture Ken Marold are pleased to present their exhibit, “Surface Flux,” at Factory Obscura in Oklahoma City, beginning May 2, 2019.

“Surface Flux” is an architecturally driven exhibit of spatial exploration through computationally designed and digitally fabricated surfaces. Each of the three surfaces have been inspired by a philosophical text that describes networks, objects or an individual’s relationship with their environment.

Using parametric processes and experimental 3D printing techniques refined by the exhibitors, each surface engages the malleability of plastic, and form yielding artifacts that are both similar yet unique. As these components aggregate together through specific rule sets for every component, networks emerge as distinct surface conditions. These network patterns are further extended through a series of mapped projections that function as a dynamic overlay, an immersive network layer upon the physical surfaces.

Deborah Richards is a licensed architect in New York, Oklahoma, and Massachusetts; and Assistant Professor of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma. Ken Marold is a professional designer and coder. Both Deborah Richards and Ken Marold are assistant professors of architecture at the University of Oklahoma.

“Surface Flux” runs from May 2 to June 2, 2019, at Factory Obscura in OKC. Join us for an opening reception on May 2nd, 2019, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by the OU Humanities Forum and the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma.
