Gabriela Escanola, Master of Construction Science alumnus and project engineer with The Boldt Co., was recently recognized for “Women in Construction Week” in The Oklahoman.

In the interview, Escanola describes how she chose construction management and how the Haskell and Irene Lemon Division of Construction Science prepared her for a successful career.

Escanola said, “As humans, we spend 80 percent to 90 percent of our time in buildings, and I saw that as an opportunity to be in an industry that is always growing and transforming our communities. That is when I decided to join the construction management program at OU, where I took several courses that helped me to understand the different stages of a project cycle. Some of the courses that prepared me were preconstruction services, fundamentals of construction, design/build, estimating, leadership and construction safety.”

She also offers advice to high schoolers who are considering construction and discusses opportunities for women in construction in the future.
