Doyle Phillips, Associate Professor in the Haskell & Irene Lemon Construction Science Division at the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture at the University of Oklahoma, has been elevated to the prestigious Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) College of Fellows. This recognition is one of the highest honors CSI can bestow and is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the construction industry and to the Institute. Phillips has a rich background in construction and education, holding a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Management from Capella University, along with a Master of Science in Postsecondary and Adult Education. He also earned his Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he received multiple accolades for academic excellence.
“Doyle is an example of why it’s important to recruit the very best faculty from across the country,” said Dean Hans E. Butzer FAIA. “Not only does he lead by example through his professional accomplishments, but his integrity as a person speaks volumes for our students and the values embodied by the Haskell and Irene Lemon Division of Construction Science.”
Phillips’ extensive professional experience includes serving as Vice President of Preconstruction at Nabholz Construction Services and Vice President of Construction Services at Red Sky Constructors. He is also an accomplished educator, with years of experience teaching courses in construction management, planning, and scheduling at the University of Oklahoma.
“Dr. Phillips brings decades of professional experience and engagement in the construction industry to bear in the classroom,” said Dr. Ben Bigelow, Director of the Haskell & Irene Lemon Construction Science Division. “While there are others who can do that, what sets him apart is that he isn’t set in his ways. Dr. Phillips continues to learn and adapt as the construction industry changes. He is so deserving of this honor and we applaud CSI for recognizing him.”
As a CSI Fellow, Phillips will join an elite group of professionals dedicated to advancing the construction industry, working with the CSI Foundation to support scholarships and other initiatives that further the organization’s mission.
Gibbs College of Architecture is proud to recognize Petya Stefanoff, who is pursuing her doctorate in the Planning, Design & Construction (PDC) program, has been appointed the new role of Director of Community Development for the City of Shawnee, Oklahoma. She joined the city in 2024.
Gibbs College of Architecture is pleased to announce that Amber N. Wiley, Ph.D., associate professor in the Division of Planning, Landscape Architecture and Design and director of the Institute for Quality Communities, has received national recognition for her book Model Schools in the Model City. The book has been named a finalist for the 2026 the PROSE Awards.
Gibbs College of Architecture Regional + City Planning Professor of Practice Vanessa Morrison and Associate Professor of Architecture Deborah Richards’ Open Design Collective received top honors at the inaugural BlackSpace Urbanist Collective Studio KIN Pitch Night Competition, held last month in Brooklyn, New York City.
