First-Generation Support
At OU, we define a first-generation student as "one whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have not completed a bachelor's degree. Even if an older sibling is pursuing a bachelor's degree or has already earned their degree, you are still considered a first-generation student."
Being a first-generation college student is like blazing a new trail. It’s exciting but can be tough, too. Without family who’ve been through college, you might feel like you're figuring things out on your own. Balancing schoolwork with family responsibilities can be challenging, and sometimes it’s hard to feel like you truly belong. But making it through shows incredible grit and can open doors for future generations. It’s a journey of growth and breaking new ground, and we are here to help you do that at OU.
