Scholarships and Awards

The Honors College offers a variety of scholarships to support students, from general need to travel and study abroad. 

Current students can apply for Honors College scholarships in the Centralized Academic Scholarship Hub (CASH). Please see details listed below on where to apply within the system. Applications are accepted in CASH beginning October 1 through February 1. Applications are submitted in the current academic year for consideration with award disbursement in the next academic year. All applications for current OU students must be submitted by February 1st unless otherwise specified.

The Boren Scholarship supports Honors College students participating in the Honors in Oxford study abroad program.

Selection Criteria: Student must be a full-time Honors College student with a minimum 3.4 GPA, participating in the Honors at Oxford program.

Award Amount: Financial award of $1,000.

The Denise and John Bode Student Scholarship was established to support students pursuing a multidisciplinary degree that focuses on food and the arts and sciences they encompass.

Selection Criteria: Qualifying student must be a full-time Honors student with a minimum of 3.4 GPA and must be pursuing a mutidisciplinary degree that focuses on food and the arts and sciences. 

Award Amount: Financial award of $1,000.

The Honors College is committed to making the Honors at Oxford study abroad program accessible by all students regardless of financial need. A limited number of students will be awarded scholarships to cover the full cost or half of the cost of the Honors at Oxford study abroad program.

Selection Criteria: Candidate must be a full-time Honors student with a minimum 3.4 GPA and must be attending the Honors at Oxford study abroad program.

Award Amount: Financial awards in the amount of either $4,000 or $2,000 each.

The Honors College Travel Award provides financial assistance to Honors students who have been accepted to present their work at a professional conference. 

Student Eligibility and Guidelines:

  • Student must be full-time Honors student with at least a 3.4 GPA. and enrolled in the term of the travel.
  • Must have documentation of planned participation in a professional conference and provide an estimated budget outline.
  • Availability of this funding is limited and is awarded on a first come, first served basis.
  • The Honors Travel Award cannot be utilized to support study abroad programs.
  • Retroactive requests will not be considered.

Award Amount:

  • Students may apply for up to $1,500 for travel associated with conference participation.

Deadlines:

  • Applications should be submitted at least 30 days prior to travel. 
  • Application opens one month prior to the current semester and closes once all funds have been awarded.

  • Decisions will be communicated via email on a monthly basis.

If selected, the award will be applied as a scholarship paid to the student's bursar account. If the student has a bursar balance, the scholarship will be applied to the balance first. Funds remaining will be refunded to the student. Questions? Email us at honors@ou.edu.

APPLY FOR A TRAVEL AWARD

 

The Honors College is aware that many study abroad scholarships may not cover travel and seeks to make study abroad accessible by all students. This scholarship may be used cover travel costs associated with your study abroad program.

  • Student must be full-time Honors student with at least a 3.4 GPA. and enrolled in the term of the travel.

The Katharine J. Gross Memorial Scholarship was established to provide an annual scholarship to one outstanding student in the Honors College at the University of Oklahoma. The scholarship honors Kathy's life as friend, mentor to students and colleagues, and for her contributions to the Honors College. 

Criteria for Selection: Student must be a full-time Honors College student with a minimum 3.4 GPA and demonstrated financial need. Priority consideration given to non-traditional female students, single working mothers, and female students who are employed in a part-time or full-time capacity.

Amount of Award: Financial award of $500.

The Juanita M. Allison scholarship was established in 2021 to assist a Honors student with demonstrated financial need. 

Selection Criteria: Student must be a full-time Honors College student with a minium 3.4 GPA and must have demonstrated financial need. Priority consideration given to someone who is first in their family to attend college.

Award Amount: Financial award of $1,200.

The Melanie L. Wright Study Abroad Scholarship recognizes Dr. Wright's dedication to the Honors College and her twenty-year service as director of the Honors at Oxford program. 

Selection Criteria: Student must be a full-time Honors College student with a minium 3.4 GPA, participating in a study abroad program. Priority consideration given to students enrolled and participating in the Honors at Oxford program.

Award Amount: Financial award of $1,500.

The McClendon Honors College Study Abroad Scholarship supports Honors College students participating in study abroad programs.

Selection Criteria: Student must be a full-time Honors College student with a minium 3.4 GPA, participating in a study abroad program. Student must have demonstrated financial need. Priority consideration given to students enrolled and participating in the Honors at Oxford program.

Award Amount: Financial award of $1,500.

The Honors College specializes in preparing students to apply for nationally competitive scholarships such as the Rhodes, Goldwater, and Truman. These are typically for current OU students seeking a specialized opportunity during their time at OU or immediately after graduation.

The Student Intern Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to students pursuing a private or public-sector internship.

Selection Criteria: Candidate must be a full-time OU student with at least a 3.0 GPA.

Award Amount: Financial award of up to $2,000.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) offers financial assistance for student-driven scholarly and creative projects under the mentorship of a faculty member.  

Student Eligibility 

  • Open to all University of Oklahoma undergraduate students on the Norman and Health Sciences Center campuses.
  • Student projects must have a faculty sponsor.
  • Students may apply for UROP either individually or as a pair. If applying as a pair, any amount awarded will be divided equally between the two applicants.
  • Recipients are expected to present the results of their research, creative activity, or work-in-progress at the Honors College's Undergraduate Research Day, a conference held in April of each year. 

Award Amount: Up to $1,000.

Vision Scholarships are awarded to ten freshman each year for up to two years.

Criteria for Selection: Candidate must be an incoming first year student with demonstrated financial need, have at least a 3.4 GPA, maintain good standing in the Honors College, and take Honors Perspectives course in their first year at OU.

Amount of award: Financial award of $2,500 per semester for up to two years if qualifications are met.
