South Building

FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

Phase 1 of the OU First-Year Housing Master Plan includes the construction of two new residence halls, McCasland Hall and the South building, on the site of the old Adams Center residence hall. The South building will provide approximately 580 beds for incoming first-year students.

The new residence halls have been designed with a small community atmosphere in mind. Both will offer premium accommodations for first-year students, with features that include a convenience store, coffee shop, lounges, outdoor spaces and more. Storm shelters will also be constructed in both buildings.

With the new plan, the university will offer enhanced on-campus living for students, prioritizing their comfort and well-being while increasing environmental sustainability. Our commitment extends to achieving LEED Silver certification for all new construction, ensuring that our campus developments align with the highest eco-conscious design and operation standards. We believe in creating a living environment that not only meets the needs of our students but also contributes positively to the environment and community as a whole.

Many students choose to not bring a car to campus. Everything you need or want is available on or very near to your campus home. Below are some details you should be aware of when bringing a bicycle to campus.

Bicycle Guidelines:

  • Non-folding bicycles are prohibited within the residence halls. Bicycles that can be folded and take up no more than 92 linear inches of space can be stored in a student’s residence hall room. Students are asked to fold and unfold these bicycles outside of the residence halls.
  • Be sure to bring a strong lock and chain for the bike racks.
  • Bicycle racks are available around each housing center for easy access, as well as at multiple locations across campus.

Bicycle Registration:

  • University policy mandates bicycle registration.
